In case you’ve never noticed (and let’s be real, you probably have), we love to tell ourselves stories. For most of us, it seems like they are full of really negative narratives.
“Johnny didn’t ask me to prom because I’m ugly.”
“No one will give me a shot unless I have a Master’s degree.”
“I don’t have everything I want in life because Sharon is holding me back.”
For sure, some of our little stories could be true. And some of them could be myths of our own devising to cover our backsides and shift blame for what’s wrong in our lives.
Keep mental inventory of the stories you are telling yourself today, and do the hard thing and ask if they’re actually, factually true. Or just fiction meant to obscure an uncomfortable reality in your life.
Then act accordingly.
