I’ve been working on a book since high school. I graduated in 2006.
My dad allowed me an entire summer to write when I was 20 and in college. I got an entire first draft done, all 84k+ words.
It was crap.
I tried to give it a good second draft, but couldn’t get past chapter 5 or so. It needed too much revision, and the first draft kept echoing in my head dialing me back into plotlines that weren’t working.
So at 22 I gave up and tabled it. It’s been dormant for six years now.
But in all that time I couldn’t shake the characters or the idea. So, a couple of months ago I picked up the pen again with the goal of a complete rewrite. I’m not even allowing myself to read the first draft – I don’t want to end up in a rut again.
God-willing, I’ll have a complete first draft manuscript this fall. I’ll post updates from time to time here.
I’ll also be asking for a few beta readers at some point. I want this version to not be crap, so having your feedback will be stellar.
